Co-creating benchmark data with Students

Co-creating benchmark data with Students

One of the key challenges in any AI application is availability of data and often human annotated data. This is specially difficulty in specialised domains such as Law and Justice, where large number of experts are required to contribute significant amount of their time to create this data.

As one of the first important outputs of the OpenNyAI mission – Benchmarks for Understanding Indian Legal Documents for NyAI or BUILDNyAI this was a critical problem to address. Earlier this year amidst pandemic, the group rolled out an opportunity in the form of a MOOC and data creation sprint that allowed students to learn the working of artificial intelligence and experience what goes on creating meaningful data for training purpose.

The team has learnt a great deal in terms of student engagement and how it affects data quality that can be used for AI training and is currently in the process of capturing the learning in the form of an academic paper.

Being core to the mission, we express deep gratitude to all the students who signed up for the MOOC and enabled creation of first benchmark for BUILDNyAI.
